Admitting that he had been eased out as Chief Minister due to a public outcry after the terror attacks in Mumbai, Vilasrao Deshmukh said taking along his actor son and film maker Ram Gopal Varma with him to visit the scene of the attacks was “a mistake”.

He denied that pressure from the Congress’ coalition partner, the NCP, was responsible for his ouster. “In a democracy, it is necessary to respect the anguish, anger and insecurity of the people,” Deshmukh told mediapersons on Thursday before submitting his resignation to Governor S C Jamir. He added he was resigning after owning moral responsibility as the head of the state for the attacks.

Asked if his “love for Bollywood” (taking along actor son Riteish and Varma) had led to his ouster, a visibly crestfallen Deshmukh, who lacked his characteristic casualness, said it was an “unfortunate happening”. “It was a mistake, I feel sorry about it,” he said, adding he regretted the incident (attacks) which had led to a loss of life for many people and the feeling that he could not protect them would also lie at the “bottom of his heart”.

Deshmukh, who was accompanied by state Congress chief Manikrao Thakre and working president Jaywantrao Awale, said he “did not think” that NCP president and Union Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar was responsible in pressurising the Congress to force his resignation.

“The Congress does not work under pressure,” he said, adding the Congress had not forced the resignation of Deputy Chief Minister and Home Minister R R Patil.

Maintaining that there was a need for introspection, Deshmukh said there was a “lot of scope for improvement” in the security and intelligence systems. “These things will definitely affect the ruling party,” he added.

On questions being raised on Union Defence Minister and state Congress in-charge A K Antony announcing Deshmukh’s resignation as accepted after meeting Pawar on Wednesday, Deshmukh said the Congress president Sonia Gandhi had informed him about the decision even before Antony met Pawar.

Claiming it was a “matter of satisfaction” that he was not being forced out due to any “blots” on his political career like corruption, strictures and unpopularity, he said the decision to resign was a “personal one” and had not been forced by the party.

Asserting that his tenure had seen the state get the highest amount of FDI and SEZs, Deshmukh, however, admitted that they had been unable to make Maharashtra “self-reliant” in the power sector. The party was free to utilise him in any responsibility that they wanted to in the future, he said, evading direct queries to whether he would contest the next Lok Sabha elections.

A R Rahman wants Himesh Reshammiya to sing his composition; but Himesh has other plans Himesh Reshammiya had once said that if he had to sing for any music director other than himself, it would have to be for A R Rahman. Now, Rahman has come up with a composition, which he thinks is apt for Himesh to sing. Rahman said, “Yes, I have come up with a composition that Himesh can do justice to. It is an important song for a big actor, in a huge project and for a big banner. But since the shooting of this song will happen only next year, it will be wrong on my part to disclose too many details about it at this time.” • I don’t sing for any outside banner (where I don’t act). Rahman said, “Himesh’s voice and the attitude with which Himesh sings is just apt for this composition. I haven’t spoken to Himesh as yet but I will be talking to him very soon.” When we told Himesh about Rahman’s plans, he said, “I am a great fan of AR Rahman and his music. It’s a great honour for me to sing his composition, but as a policy decision, I only sing for myself onscreen. I don’t sing for any outside banner (where I don’t act). I would instead request Rahman saab to give music for one of my films where I am the actor and singer. In fact, if he agrees, it will be a dream come true. In my forthcoming films Kajra Re, Mudh Mudh Ke Na Dekh Mudh Mudh Ke, A New Love Ishstory, and an untitled film for Studio 18, at least one composition in each album is dedicated to Rahman saab. I just love his music.

Hrithik Roshan has become quite choosy of late and this is quite apparent by the fact that the only film Hrithik has signed after his home production Kites is Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s next. Hrithik confirmed this and said, “Sanjay Bhansali’s film is the only film that I’ve accepted after Kites. I just jumped at it. We’re both very passionate film persons.Though there’s one other script that I’m looking at, nothing touched my soul except Bhansali’s script.”

“I believe he’s passionate and his passion is evident in his films. I thought Devdas and Saawariya were spectacular. I’m no one to judge, but I thought Saawariya was wrongly marketed.Otherwise it was as passionate as his earlier films,” raved Hrithik about Bhansali

Hrithik is also pretty excited about Aishwarya Rai Bachchan being his co-star in the film. After all they shared a very special chemistry in Dhoom 2 and Jodhaa-Akbar. “The pairing with Aishwarya will be as special as the film that will project it. It’s always about how committed and passionate the script allows us to be. Given Sanjay’s calibre I don’t see why we won’t be able to recreate the same chemistry again. The project is definitely going into a different territory, in more ways than one,” he said, hinting at a unique shooting location.

The film will require a great deal of emotional wrenching from Hrithik. “I feel all the physical pain and turmoil that I’ve gone through in the recent past will add to my experiences as an actor. The more turmoil I go through the better I am as an actor. My work is about creativity and not about the business side of it. I know Sanjay’s film will offer me optimum emotional sustenance,” he signed off.

Vivek Oberoi, once hailed as one of the most talented newcomers almost wrecked his career, when Mrs Aishwarya Bachchan entered his life. He did some demeaning pleadings with superstars to straighten out his messy career, but to no avail. But the infamous battle between Shah Rukh and Salman changed his life! How? Recently, Vivek was seen in a party thrown by Shah Rukh and Gauri. According to an eyewitness, “At Gauri’s party at Mannat (to celebrate SRK’s 43rd birthday) Saturday night, most people were shocked to see Vivek Oberoi getting up close and personal with SRK and Gauri. VO’s appearance at the bash is surprising because Gauri’s party was a very intimate one meant only for a select few those very close to the couple’s innermost circle.”
