Shah Mehmood Qureshi

Islamabad: Pakistan will not hand over to India any of the suspects in the Mumbai terror attacks but would try them under its own laws, Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi said Tuesday.

“The arrests are being made for our own investigations. Even if allegations are proved against any suspect, he will not be handed over to India,” Qureshi said in Multan, commenting on the arrest of Zakiur Rehman Lakhwi, commander of the Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terror group that India has blamed for the Mumbai attacks.

“We will proceed against those arrested under Pakistani laws,” Qureshi added.

According to reports, Lakhwi was among the at least 15 people detained in the last two days after raids on a camp run by the banned LeT in Pakistan-administered Kashmir.

Following the Mumbai terror attacks, Pakistani security forces also sealed a camp of the Jamaat-ud-Dawah (JD), as the LeT is widely believed to have been renamed after it was proscribed, in the Shawai Nullah neighbourhood of Muzaffarabad, the capital of Pakistani Kashmir.

Another senior Pakistani government official said there was no chance of handing over Lakhwi to India.

“Yes, he was arrested and would be tried if India provides evidence against him,” the official said.
Also on Tuesday, the JD said that none of their offices in Pakistan had been raided.

“We are working under Pakistani laws and have never indulged in any terrorist or unlawful activities,” JD spokesperson Abdullah Muntizar told IANS, commenting on reports about countrywide raids on LeT offices and camps.

He said he had no information about any arrests. “What I know is what has appeared in media,” Muntizar said, adding that the media was confusing the LeT with the JD.

According to him, military spokesperson Maj. Gen. Athar Abbas had made it clear that the operation was against outlawed organisations whereas the JD was registered “and working under the law for promotion of education and welfare work”.

In a statement issued late Monday, the military spokesperson said in a statement that an operation to target militant organisations had started in the wake of the attacks in Mumbai.

“The military confirms an operation of law enforcement is underway,” it said, adding that there had been arrests and investigations were underway.

In 2002, the LeT, the Jaish-e-Muhammad (JeM) and three other organisations were banned by the government after US pressure to close their offices in Pakistan.

On Monday, Pakistani authorities placed restrictions on the movement of JeM chief Maulana Masood Azhar, who New Delhi accuses of masterminding the Dec 1999 hijack of an Indian Airlines aircraft to Kandahar.

India has blamed organisations based in Pakistan for last month’s devastating assault on its financial capital, and there has been growing pressure on the government here to act against groups suspected of being involved.

On Monday, Pakistan also rejected India’s demand to extradite three fugitives — Dawood Ibrahim, Tiger Memon and Maulana Masood Azhar – and urged it to share evidence proving that elements from this country territory had carried out the recent attacks in Mumbai. While Dawood Ibrahim and Memon are Indian citizens, Azhar is a Pakistani.

A report in Dawn daily said that this was communicated to India in a demarche from Foreign Secretary Salman Bashir to Indian High Commissioner Satyabrata Pal in response to New Delhi’s second demarche that had listed actions it wanted Islamabad to take.

The paper said that India had been told that of the three fugitives, Pakistan didn’t know the whereabouts of Dawood Ibrahim and Memon — men who allegedly masterminded the devastating Mumbai bombings in 1993.

10 Top Indian CEOs

Lakshmi N Mittal

Steel tycoon Lakshmi Niwas Mittal is the richest Indian in the world, with an estimated wealth of $25 billion. He resides in London, has his company registered in the Netherlands, but still holds an Indian passport. Although Mittal Steel was already the world’s biggest steel company, his king-sized ambitions were evident when he took over steel giant Arcelor to create a new steel behemoth — Arcelor-Mittal. L N Mittal left India in the mid-1970s to start his career. He was sent to Indonesia by his father to shut down the family’s ailing steel plant and sell the land. Instead, young Mittal saw an opportunity and turned the plant around. To prove that this was no fluke, Mittal acquired a 1.3 million tonne, Iscot Steel plant in Trinidad & Tobago, which was losing $100,000 a day. One year of Mittal-style management and it was making profits, the LN Mittal legend was born. That move helped him get into America. The Mexican government seeing the success that Mittal made of Iscot, asked him to take over their ailing steel plants in 1992. But it was not all that smooth. In 1994 Mittal had differences with his brothers and father, and went on to form his own company. The following year Mittal entered the European market, acquiring the 5 million tonne Kazakh steel plant, Karmet. Meanwhile, Mittal had listed Ispat International on the New York and Amsterdam Stock Exchanges in 1997. Eight years later Mittal Steel became the world’s largest steel maker when he took over the US’s largest steel producer — the International Steel Group. He then consolidated all his steel holdings into Mittal Steel.

Ratan Tata

Ratan Naval Tata, a bachelor, is the chairman of the Tata Group, India’s most respected conglomerate. He joined the family business in 1962 and worked with many of his group’s companies. He took over as group chairman from the legendary J R D Tata in 1991. Since then, he has been instrumental in boosting the fortunes of the Tata Group, which has amongst the largest market capitalisations in the Indian stock markets. Tata Motors developed the Tata Indica in 1998. This was the first ‘entirely Indian’ passenger car. Ratan Tata’s dream now is to manufacture a car costing just Rs 100,000. Ratan Tata holds a degree in Architecture and Structural Engineering from Cornell University. He has also done the Advanced Management Program from Harvard Business School in 1974-1975. Mumbai, Nov 6 (IANS) Saif Ali Khan has just been offered a chance by Imtiaz Ali to have his dream come true. The actor, who is passionate about playing the guitar, is all set to play a rock star in the director’s next venture.

‘It’s a film called ‘Rock Star’. I don’t know if I’m equipped to handle it. Rock music is about a lot of attitude. More than just playing with an attitude, it’s a way of thinking. I need to be more true to the music. It’s easy to call any star a rock star. But I think it’s more than your lifestyle. It’s about being able to live your life the way you want,’ Saif told IANS in an interview.

Saif wants to work on the attitude and the guitar before doing ‘Rock Star’. Last week, he played the guitar for a charity concert for Bihar flood victims, but he played so hard that his fingers began to bleed.

‘It has never happened before. My fingers are seriously cut. This is a sign of how seriously I played the guitar. And if I was a seasoned player that wouldn’t happen. So I want to pursue this seriously. As for my performance, I think of the two AC/DC songs ‘Livewire’ and ‘A Whole Lot Of Rosie’. I think I performed one really well, the other not so well. But finally it was fine,’ he said.

Saif now intends to pursue guitar playing on a war scale. He owns two guitars and he intends to carry them with him to his outdoor shoots to play during free hours.

‘I own two beautiful guitars – Fender Stratocaster (which Mark Knopfler and Eric Clapton own) and a Gibson Les Paul that was gifted to me recently by the company’s branch in India. I think I’ll start using that. I want my guitar practice to go on side by side with the shooting. I will travel with my guitars.’

About the charity concert last Friday night, Saif said: ‘It went really well. I’d rate my performance 7 out of 10. But I was floored by how well the Pentagram lead guitarist Randolph played, also Tushar who’s done so much music for Yashraj Films. In comparison, I’m still learning.’

Saif is honest in his self-assessment.

‘I seriously need to get out of the amateur player’s zone. I love rock music. It’s very liberating. It’s the same feeling as when we all went dancing as a teenager. The guitar helps me let off steam. I want to play with a group of friends, jamming and enjoying myself without any care in the world. On Friday night, I spoke to the other rock musicians. We’ve decided to play at some smaller centres.’

Girlfriend Kareena Kapoor gave his concert a miss to fulfil her professional commitment to Shah Rukh Khan. Any regrets?

‘Work comes first. We both have to work, yaar. She doesn’t even have to explain. Even my children weren’t there. They’re in Delhi. But there was a huge turnout,’ he said.

This might be Old news for some people whilst new for other people!

Space images taken by NASA reveal a mysterious ancient bridge in the Palk Strait between India and Sri Lanka. The recently discovered bridge currently named as Adam’s Bridge is made of chain of shoals, c.18 mi (30 km) long.
The bridge’s unique curvature and composition by age reveals that it is man made. The legends as well as Archeological studies reveal that the first signs of human inhabitants in Sri Lanka date back to the a primitive age, about 1,750,000 years ago and the bridge’s age is also almost equivalent. This information is a crucial aspect for an insight into the mysterious legend called Ramayana, which was supposed to have taken place in treta yuga (more than 1,700,000 years ago).
In this epic, there is a mentioning about a bridge, which was built between Rameshwaram (India) and Srilankan coast under the supervision of a dynamic and invincible figure called Rama who is supposed to be the incarnation of the supreme.
This information may not be of much importance to the archeologists who are interested in exploring the origins of man, but it is sure to open the spiritual gates of the people of the world to have come to know an ancient history linked to the Indian mythology.

Sri Lanka History

The first signs of human inhabitants in Sri Lanka date back to the Stone Age, about 1.750.000 million years ago. These people are said to have come from the South of India and reached the Island through a land bridge connecting the Indian subcontinent to Sri Lanka named Adam’s Bridge. This is related so in the epic Hindu book of Ramayana.

Adam’s Bridge

Rama’s Bridge, chain of shoals, c.18 mi (30 km) long, in the Palk Strait between India and Sri Lanka. At high tide it is covered by c. 4 ft (1.2 m) of water. A steamer ferry links Rameswaram, India, with Mannar, Sri Lanka. According to Hindu legend, the bridge was built to transport Rama, hero of the Ramayana, to the island to rescue his wife Sita from the demon king Ravana.

Hot Google Trends reflects what people are searching for on Google today. Rather than showing the most popular searches overall, which would always be generic terms like ‘weather,’ Hot Trends highlights searches that experience sudden surges in popularity, and updates that information hourly. Our algorithm analyzes millions of web searches performed on Google and displays those searches that deviate the most from their historic traffic pattern. The algorithm also filters out spam and removes inappropriate material. For each search, Hot Trends shows related searches and a search volume graph. The page also displays news, blog posts, and web results to give context about why a search may be appearing on the Hot Trends list. You can also choose a date in the past to see what the top Hot Trends were for that date by clickingchange date.
